About Translate PDF
This tool lets you translate a PDF online for free, between languages such as English, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, French, Spanish and Chinese. The source language is detected for you. You choose the target language, and then pick your result: a PDF in the same layout, or an editable Word document.
With the same layout option, each paragraph and table cell is swapped for its translation in place, and text is resized when the translation runs longer. Translation runs on your device with open translation models, and your file is never uploaded. The model downloads once the first time you use a language pair and then stays in your browser.
It helps anyone who gets documents in a language they don't read well. Say a family receives a school notice in French after moving abroad. They translate it into English to understand the key dates. This is machine translation, so results can contain mistakes. Have a fluent person check anything important, such as legal or medical text.
How to use Translate PDF
- Drop your PDF on the page or click Choose file.
- Leave the source on Detect automatically, or pick it yourself.
- Choose the target language under Into.
- Pick the result: Same layout (PDF) or Word. If you only need part of the file, fill in Pages (optional).
- Click Translate and download your file. Click New file to start again.
Same layout
Each paragraph and table cell is translated in place, on the original page, with its colours and pictures.

Translate PDF: questions people ask
Is my file uploaded?
No. The text is translated in your browser. Only the translation model is downloaded, once, and it then stays in your browser.
How big is the model download?
About 115 MB for most language pairs, and about 640 MB for languages such as Bengali, Tamil or Urdu.
Can I trust the translation?
It is machine translation, so it can contain mistakes. It is useful for understanding a document, but have a fluent person check important material such as legal or medical text.
Can I translate a scanned PDF?
A scanned PDF has no text to translate. Run it through OCR PDF first, then translate the result.
