About Header and footer

This tool lets you add a header and footer to a PDF online for free. You can put a title, a date, the file name or "Page 1 of 10" at the top or bottom of every page. Text can sit on the left, in the centre or on the right.

Smart fields fill in by themselves. Type {page}, {total}, {date} or {file} and the right value appears on each page. You can set the size, margin, colour and bold, and choose which pages get the text.

For example, a project manager is about to send a draft proposal for review. She types "DRAFT" in Header right, the company name in Header left, and "Page {page} of {total}" in Footer centre. Reviewers can now refer to exact pages. Processing happens in your browser, and the PDF is not uploaded.

How to use Header and footer

  1. Drop your PDF on the page or click Choose file.
  2. Type text into any of the boxes: Header left, Header centre, Header right, Footer left, Footer centre or Footer right.
  3. Use smart fields like {page}, {total}, {date} or {file} if you want.
  4. Adjust Size, Margin (mm), Colour and Bold, and set Pages if only some pages need the text.
  5. Click Add header and footer.
  6. Download the edited PDF, or click New file to start over.

Example

Input: proposal-v2.pdf.

You type "DRAFT" in Header right and Page {page} of {total} in Footer centre, then tick Bold.

You click Add header and footer.

Result: every page shows "DRAFT" at the top right and its own page count at the bottom.
