About PDF bookmarks
This tool adds bookmarks to a PDF, a clickable outline that PDF readers show in their side panel. You can build the outline from the document's headings in one click, or type your own entries with a title and page number. The page content itself stays unchanged.
Bookmarks make long files much easier to move around in. They help students with a long thesis, staff who publish a handbook, or anyone sharing a manual. For example, an HR team can open a staff handbook, press "Make from headings", rename a few entries such as "Leave policy", and save, so new hires can jump straight to the section they need.
If the PDF already has bookmarks, they show up as soon as it loads, so you can rename, renumber, add or remove them. Everything happens in your browser and your PDF is not uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily cap.
How to use PDF bookmarks
- Click Choose file or drop your PDF on the page. Any existing bookmarks appear in the list.
- Click Make from headings to build bookmarks from the document's headings.
- Use + Add bookmark to add more, and edit each Title and Page. Use Remove all to start over.
- Click Save bookmarks.
- Download the PDF and open it in your reader to see the outline in the side panel.

PDF bookmarks: questions people ask
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no set file size or page limit. Very large files work best on a computer, because your own device does the work.
How do I add bookmarks to a PDF?
Open the file, choose "Make from headings" or add bookmarks by hand, then click "Save bookmarks".
Will my pages change?
No. Only the outline is added. The page content stays unchanged.
