About Edit metadata
Every PDF carries hidden details: a title, an author, a subject, keywords, and the app and producer that made it. This tool lets you edit PDF metadata online for free, so you can change those details or clear them out. The pages themselves stay unchanged.
It is handy for anyone who shares documents in public or with clients. PDF readers and search engines often show the stored title, and an old author name can linger from a template someone else made. Clean details look more professional and can protect your privacy.
Picture a consultant who built a report from a colleague's old template. The file still says "Untitled" with the colleague's name as author. With this tool, she sets a clear title, puts her own name in Author, adds a few keywords, and saves. The work happens in your browser, and the PDF is not uploaded.
How to use Edit metadata
- Drop your PDF on the page or click Choose file. Its current details appear on the right.
- Edit the fields you need: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords (comma-separated), Made with (app) and PDF producer.
- Leave a field empty if you want to remove that detail.
- Tick the checkbox if you also want to remove extra XML details.
- Click Save. The pages stay as they were.
- Download the updated PDF, or click New file to start again.
All the usual fields
Title, author, subject, keywords, app and producer.
Better search
A clear title helps Google and PDF readers show your file properly.
Private by design
Done in your browser; your PDF is never uploaded.
Free, no limits
No sign-up, no watermark and no daily cap.
Example
Input: q3-report.pdf with Title "Untitled" and Author "Old Template".
You type "Q3 Sales Report 2026" in Title, your name in Author, and "sales, quarterly, 2026" in Keywords.
You empty the Made with (app) field and click Save.
Result: a PDF with the same pages and clean, up-to-date details.
Edit metadata: questions people ask
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and your PDF stays on your device.
Why should I change PDF metadata?
Readers and search engines show the title, and author names are often left over from an old template. Clean details look more professional and can protect privacy.
How do I remove a detail completely?
Leave that field empty before you click Save. You can also tick the option to remove extra XML details.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
