How to edit a video online

  1. Pick a size and add your clips. Drop videos, photos and your own music, or record your camera, screen or voice.
  2. Edit on the timeline. Trim, split, change speed and put clips on several video and audio tracks.
  3. Make it yours. Add text, auto captions, transitions, colour looks, effects, green screen and stickers.
  4. Export. Save an MP4 or WebM up to 4K, a GIF, or just the sound. Nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

Video Editor: questions people ask

Is the Video Editor free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no time limit, and every tool is free, including auto captions and background removal.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Your videos, photos and music are edited in your browser and never leave your device. The AI tools (auto captions and background removal) download their model once from Hugging Face, a public AI model library, and then run on your device. That download never includes your files.

Can I use several videos and music tracks?

Yes. The timeline has several video tracks (for picture-in-picture and overlays) and several audio tracks, so you can mix your own music, sound effects and a voice-over.

Which files can I add?

Videos in MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV (H.264, HEVC, VP9 or AV1, depending on your browser), photos (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF) and sound (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG). There is no music library: add songs and sounds you have the right to use.

How do I add captions?

Open Captions and press Make. The AI listens to the speech in your video on your device and writes the captions with timings. Fix any word by typing, pick a style, then burn them into the video or save them as SRT or VTT.

Which sizes can I export?

MP4 or WebM from 480p to 4K at 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames per second, a GIF, or the sound only. The export runs on your device; a laptop or desktop with Chrome or Edge is fastest.

What happens if I close the tab?

Your project and its files are saved in this browser as you edit. Open the Video Editor again and pick it under Recent to carry on.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, for short videos. The phone layout works like popular phone editors: the preview on top, the timeline under it and the tools along the bottom.
