About Compare PDF
Compare PDF shows you exactly what changed between two versions of a document. Open the old file and the new file, and the tool goes through them page by page. Words that were removed show in red and words that were added show in green, so you don't have to read both copies line by line.
It is useful any time a document comes back edited. For example, a freelancer gets a "final" contract from a client and wants to check that only the payment date changed and nothing else. A teacher can check a revised question paper, and an office team can check a policy before it goes out.
Text comparison needs real text in the PDF. For scans, stamps, signatures and drawings, switch to Visual mode, which compares the pages pixel by pixel. Everything runs in your browser and your files are never uploaded. It's free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
How to use Compare PDF
- Click Choose files and add both PDFs, or drop them on the page. The first file is treated as the original.
- If you picked them in the wrong order, click Swap.
- Review the highlights: red is removed (first PDF) and green is added (second PDF). Use Next change to jump from one change to the next.
- Under Show, switch to Visual changes to spot changes in images, signatures or scanned pages.
- Click Download comparison report to save every changed page side by side as one PDF.
Word-by-word
A proper diff finds exactly which words were removed and added on each page.
Visual changes
Pixel comparison catches changes text comparison can’t, such as images, stamps and scans.
Private by design
Both PDFs are compared in your browser and never uploaded.
Shareable report
Download every changed page side by side as one PDF.
Example
You have rental-agreement-v1.pdf and rental-agreement-v2.pdf. Add v1 first, then v2. The tool highlights "1 June" in red and "15 June" in green on page 2, and nothing else. Download the report and send it to the other party as a record of the one change.
Compare PDF: questions people ask
How do I compare two PDFs for free?
Drop both files on the page at once. The tool compares them page by page and highlights removed and added words.
Which file is the original?
The first file you choose. Click Swap to reverse the order.
Can it compare scanned PDFs?
Yes, with Visual mode. Text comparison needs real text, which scanned pages don't have, so Visual mode compares how the pages look instead.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both files are compared in your browser and never leave your device.
