How to enhance a photo
- Add your photo. Choose a file, drop it on the page or paste it. It stays on your device.
- Pick the size. 2K, 4K or the same size. Turn on Fix faces for portraits and Fix colours for faded photos.
- Press Enhance. The AI rebuilds detail and cleans blur and noise.
- Compare and download. Drag the slider to see before and after, zoom in, then save as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Real detail, not stretching
Real-ESRGAN was trained to rebuild texture and edges, so enlarged photos look sharp instead of soft and blocky.
Faces brought back
GFPGAN restores eyes, skin and hair in faces, which brings old family photos and low-quality portraits back to life.
Private by design
All the AI runs in your browser. Your photos aren’t uploaded or seen by anyone.
Colours restored
One switch removes the haze and colour cast of faded prints while keeping black-and-white photos neutral.
Photo Enhancer: questions people ask
Is the Photo Enhancer free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no credits and no daily limit. You get the full 2K or 4K image.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The AI runs inside your browser, so your photo never leaves your device. The AI models are downloaded once from Hugging Face, a public AI model library (with Omebly as the backup), and then kept in your browser, which makes the next photos faster. That download never includes your photo.
What does it actually improve?
It enlarges the photo with Real-ESRGAN, which rebuilds fine detail instead of just stretching pixels, and removes blur, noise and JPEG blockiness on the way. Fix faces uses GFPGAN to rebuild eyes, skin and hair in faces, which helps most with old or low-quality portraits. Fix colours brings back faded colours and contrast.
How big can the result be?
Up to 4K (3840 pixels on the long side). You can choose 2K, 4K or keep the same size and only improve the quality. Results never go above 4K, so they stay easy to share and print.
How long does it take?
On most computers and recent phones with GPU access in the browser, a 4K result takes from a few seconds to about a minute, depending on the device. The first time also downloads the enhancer (34 MB, plus 171 MB for Fix faces). Devices without GPU access use the Fast mode and take longer.
Can it fix any photo?
It makes a big difference for small, blurry, noisy, compressed and old photos. It can’t recover detail that isn’t there at all, like a face that is only a few pixels wide, and it doesn’t remove scratches or tears from scanned prints.
