Website Development Cost in India (2026): A Line-by-Line Breakdown

Why do website quotes in India vary so much? This line-by-line breakdown shows what each part of a website costs to build and run, and what to check in a quote.

Website development cost in India depends on five things: how many pages you need, how custom the design is, which features the site must handle, who writes the content, and what support you get after launch. A template site with your logo costs very little; a custom, fast, search-ready business website costs more because it includes far more work. As a reference, Omebly’s custom business website starts from $1,500 for up to 10 pages, with the final quote and invoice in INR for Indian clients.

This guide breaks a website quote into its lines, explains what each one pays for, separates one-off costs from yearly ones, and shows how to compare quotes that look nothing alike.

Quick answer: A website quote should list design, pages, the build (mobile-first and fast), features such as forms and WhatsApp chat, basic SEO setup, analytics, content, testing and launch, plus support terms. Domain, hosting and business email are usually separate yearly costs. Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same lines.

Why website quotes in India vary so much

Ask five developers in Kolkata, Bengaluru or Delhi for “a website for my business” and the numbers can differ many times over. Usually nobody is lying; they are quoting different products.

  • Template versus custom. A theme with your colours swapped in is quick. A design made for your customers and brand takes days of work before any code is written.
  • What “pages” means. Five copied service pages are cheaper than five pages each written, designed and optimised for a different search.
  • Hidden exclusions. Content, images, SEO setup, analytics and post-launch fixes are often missing from the cheapest quotes.
  • Ownership. Some low prices come with the site, domain or hosting staying in the developer’s account.

The fix is not to look for “the right price”. It is to make each quote show its lines.

The line-by-line breakdown

1. Discovery and planning

A call to understand your business, customers and goals, ending with a sitemap: which pages, what each one is for, and what the visitor should do next. Skipping this is how sites end up with ten pages and no clear reason to contact you.

2. Design

The look and layout of each page type, on mobile and desktop. A custom design costs more than a template because each layout is made for your content. If design matters to you, ask to see the homepage design for approval before development starts.

3. Pages and page templates

Cost rises with the number of unique page layouts, not just page count. Ten service pages that share one template cost less than ten pages that each need a different layout. Omebly’s business website package covers custom design for up to 10 pages.

4. Development (the build)

Turning the design into a working site: responsive layouts, fast loading, clean code, accessibility basics and a content system if you want to edit pages yourself. Speed is worth paying for: Google’s PageSpeed Insights lets you test any site you are considering as a reference.

5. Features

Each feature is a small project with its own cost:

Feature Effect on cost
Contact form and WhatsApp chat Small; standard on most business sites
Booking or appointment system Medium; depends on calendars and reminders
Blog Small to medium
Multilingual pages (Bengali, Hindi, English) Medium; every page and form doubles
Customer login or portal Larger; moves towards a web app
Online payments or a shop Larger; becomes an e-commerce project

If you need a full catalogue, cart and checkout, look at e-commerce website pricing instead, which starts from $4,000 at Omebly.

6. Content: text, photos and video

The most underestimated line. Someone has to write each page, choose or shoot photos, and prepare logos and certificates. If you provide everything, this line is small. If the developer writes copy or sources images, it should appear in the quote.

7. Basic SEO setup

Not “ranking guarantees”, which nobody can honestly offer, but the technical basics: page titles and meta descriptions, a sitemap, structured data, clean URLs and image alt text. These cost little to set up during the build and a lot to retrofit.

8. Analytics and Search Console

Google Analytics and Google Search Console connected under your account, so you can see visitors, searches and errors from day one.

9. Testing and launch

Checking pages on real phones and browsers, testing forms, setting up redirects from an old site, and pointing your domain. A launch that loses an old site’s search traffic because redirects were missed is an expensive saving.

10. Support after launch

What happens when something breaks in month three? Get it in writing. Omebly’s support policy fixes bugs in code we wrote, measured against the signed scope, for as long as Omebly operates. New features, design or content changes, third-party plugins, hosting and updates for new browser versions are quoted separately.

One-off costs versus yearly costs

Many owners budget for the build and are surprised by the renewals. Separate them from the start.

Cost One-off or yearly Who you usually pay
Planning, design, build, launch One-off Developer
Content writing and photos One-off (plus updates) Developer, writer or yourself
Domain name Yearly Domain registrar
Hosting Monthly or yearly Hosting provider
Business email Monthly or yearly per user Email provider
Paid plugins, themes or tools Usually yearly Plugin or tool vendor
New features and redesigns As needed Developer
Ongoing SEO or ads Monthly Marketing team or agency

Make sure the domain, hosting and email accounts are in your business’s name, even if the developer helps set them up.

How to compare website quotes

Put every quote into the same ten lines above and mark each line as included, excluded or unclear. Then ask:

  1. How many pages, and how many unique layouts?
  2. Is the design custom, or a template? Will I approve it before the build?
  3. Who writes the content and provides the images?
  4. Is basic SEO setup, analytics and Search Console included?
  5. Is GST included in the price shown?
  6. What is the timeline, and what do you need from me to keep it?
  7. How are payments split, and are they tied to milestones I review?
  8. Who owns the code, domain and accounts when the project is paid?
  9. What exactly is covered after launch, and for how long?

Ways to reduce cost without a worse website

  • Start with fewer, stronger pages. Five focused pages beat fifteen thin ones. Add more later.
  • Prepare your content early. Late content stretches timelines and adds rounds of changes.
  • Reuse page templates. Similar pages (services, locations) can share one well-made layout.
  • Phase the features. Launch with a contact form and WhatsApp; add booking or a portal once enquiries prove the demand.
  • Decide quickly on designs. Two clear rounds of feedback cost less than six vague ones.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing on price alone, then paying again to rebuild within a year.
  • Leaving the domain in someone else’s name.
  • No redirects when replacing an old site.
  • Forgetting yearly costs in the budget.
  • Treating launch as the end. A website needs updates, fresh content and occasional new features.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a business website cost in India in 2026?

It depends on pages, design depth, features and content. As a reference, Omebly's custom business website starts from $1,500 for up to 10 pages, and Indian clients receive the final quote and invoice in INR after a free consultation.

Why do website quotes in India vary so much?

Quotes cover different things. A low quote may be a template with your logo and no SEO, content or support; a higher one may include custom design, a mobile-first build, analytics, SEO setup and bug fixes after launch. Compare line by line.

Are domain and hosting included in website development cost?

Often not. Domain registration and hosting are usually yearly costs paid to the provider, separate from the one-off build. Ask every developer to list them separately and to register the domain in your name.

What are the yearly costs of running a website?

Plan for domain renewal, hosting, business email, any paid plugins or services, content updates and new features. Bug fixes may be covered by the developer's support terms; new work usually is not.

Is GST added to website development quotes in India?

Check each quote. Some show prices before GST and some include it, so ask the developer to state clearly whether tax is included before you compare totals.

How long does it take to build a business website?

A business website of up to 10 pages usually takes 2 to 4 weeks once the content is ready. Late content is the most common cause of delay.
